POC is happy to welcome Chemmy Alcott on the team! (7/3/2008)

The current British No 1 alpine skier Chemmy Alcott has signed with POC and will join us for product development, testing and racing the POC gear.

She is the only British woman currently competing in World Cup events and the first British woman to qualify for and race in a World Cup final. Chemmy competes in four disciplines, Downhill, Super G, Giant Slalom and Super Combined.

Chemmy started skiing as a toddler - 18 months old. "My competitive urge was clear to be seen as I tried to ski and keep up with my older brothers" says Chemmy.

Chemmy Alcott won all of the British titles as a junior, and throughout her ski racing career, her performances have been compared to the GB men rather than women. "In the beginning of my racing, girls and boys competed together; no boy was going to beat me!!"

Chemmy has had her fare share of injuries and knows what she is talking about when it comes to protection. At age 12 she broke her neck in a skiing accident, recovering with two of her vertebrae fused together.

"As with all other POC athletes, Chemmy is a special personality, someone who stands out, independent, committed and with a great attitude. Within the international racing crowd, surrounded by the big teams of Austria, Switzerland, France and so forth, she stands out. Not an alien but very different. Great different" says CEO Stefan Ytterborn.

"I am so excited to join the POC team. Ever since racers started using POC products a few years ago, I have admired their style and uniqueness. I see myself as quite quirky and original so I thought they would suit me too! Also safety is such a big thing for me and last year when I saw the effectiveness of the POC products in a horrendous crash from the men's race in Kitzbuhel I felt that POC helmets are protection you can trust 100 %!" says Chemmy. Chemmy's ultimate aim is to win an Olympic medal. "When I was 13, I made a pact with myself that I would win Olympic gold" says Chemmy.

We are looking forward to following Chemmy all the way, hopefully to the podium!
